Biography:

The Winter Soldier, also known as James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, is a complex figure in the Marvel Universe. Originally Captain America's childhood friend and World War II ally, Bucky was presumed dead during a mission. However, he was captured by HYDRA who brainwashed and cybernetically enhanced him, transforming him into the Winter Soldier, a highly skilled and ruthless assassin.

For decades, the Winter Soldier was a sleeper agent used by HYDRA for covert operations. He carried out numerous assassinations and acts of sabotage with no memory of his past life. His conditioning and cybernetic arm made him a formidable opponent.

Eventually, Captain America helped Bucky regain his memories, leading him to grapple with his past actions and seek redemption. He has since worked both independently and alongside other heroes, including the Avengers, to atone for his past. He joins the Thunderbolts as a means of further redemption, using his skills for what he hopes is good under Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's supervision.
